Introduction to the Islamic Sciences (Tartīb al-’Ulūm)
This first course of Level 2 delves into the most central formal Islamic sciences, studying their founders, historical development, key terminology, famous discussions, and its relevance for us today. The sciences we will cover are the Sciences of: Qur’ān, Hadīth, ‘Aqīdah (Creed and Theology), Fiqh (Law), Usūl al-Fiqh (The Principles of Law), and Tasawwuf (Spirituality).
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of Level 1
Where: Arizona Cultural Academy (ACA)
When: Wednesdays 6:30-9:00 pm (September 24-December 10. No class on October 8 (Fall Break) or November 26 (Thanksgiving Break).
10 Sessions: To pass, you must attend 8 sessions live.

Ustadh Yamen Atassi
MAIN INSTRUCTOR
Ustadh Yamen Atassi is the founding director of Afiyah Collective. He graduated with degrees in Philosophy and Humanities and then went on to study at Qasid Arabic Institute in Amman, Jordan, where he also began his formal studies with teachers privately. Yamen has continued with these studies since 2017, namely with his two primary teachers, Shaykh Hamza Karamali and Shaykh Tabraze Azam. Since moving to Phoenix, he served as the Sacred Sciences Coordinator at Arizona Cultural Academy from 2020-2023. He currently works full-time at Basira Education, is completing his MA in Islamic Chaplaincy at Hartford Seminary, and lives in Phoenix with his wife, son and two cats.
